Disc-golf, Frolf, Folf, Frisbee-Golf, hippy-golf... take your pick. Whatever your choice, the end result is always the same. If you're trying to find a course by sight and sound alone, keep an eye out for: people throwing frisbees around in a golf-like fashion. Otherwise, go ahead and use the list below to help get you pointed in the right direction.

Glacier Country is rife with folf courses that provide a fun day in the woods or on the mountainside. If you like technical courses, then you've found yourself in the right location, because we have trees, obstacles, trees, trees, and some more trees. Get the driver out and long!

Region 2

Blue Mountain

The hiker's course. This area spreads across a large expanse on the face of Blue Mountain located just south of Missoula. The first half of the course is mostly open with occasional tree obstacles that can block the view of the basket, followed by the second half of the course that dives down into the wooded ravines of Blue Mountain. The second half can require a skilled hand at tree-dodging; though the fairways themselves are fairly clear if you can keep from playing in the rough. Overall, a "big-arm" course that requires plenty of long shots.

Getting Here:
I-90; exit 101 (Reserve St.). Go south on Hwy 93 all the way through Missoula to a right (west) on Blue Mountain Rd. about a mile after the 2nd Walmart. Go 2.5 miles to MacClay Flats parking lot. Hole #1 is at the top of the hill across the road.

Pattee Canyon

A technical course set in the Pattee Canyon recreation area that will find the player in amongst the trees after the first few holes. Often over-crowded after the 5:00pm work hour has been reached, this course is likely the most popular course in the valley and around Missoula with a waiting line gathering at the first hole. This crowd, however, is no reason to skip this course as it provides a great challenge for folf players of all skill levels.

Getting Here:
I-90; exit 105, south 1 block to a right on Broadway, to a left on Higgins, 2 miles to a left on Pattee Canyon Rd. to the top of the canyon and a left into the picnic area. 1st tee is 200 yards north of the 3rd parking lot.

Snow Bowl

Take the lift ride to the top! Seriously, you get a view before you start playing, and during the course of play you are awarded plenty of views of the Missoula Valley when teeing down the 1,100+ ft. hole that plays down a ski run. The added bonus of this course is that it boasts a restaurant and bar at the base of the lift near the parking lot.

Echo Valley, Frenchtown

In the Lolo National Forest. Mix of meadows, trees, hills, and even a little stream crossing. Please report any people leaving trash in the lot. Pack out your trash! Range 6 Under 300', 3 in 300' to 400'

Getting Here:
From Missoula: west on I-90 to Exit 89 in Frenchtown, right at top of ramp, left onto frontage road, 1.1 miles west to a right on Roman Creek Road, 1 mile, bear right on Roman Creek Road (now dirt), follow forest service main road 0.9 miles (all right forks - no private drives) to the parking lot. 1st tee straight through the walk-in gate.

UM Campus

There are probably more courses on the UM campus than there are holes in a regular course. Players are often unpopular with the student and faculty crowd during the busier school year (though choosing your playing time wisely helps reduce the impact), and often the varying courses are only populated during the quiet summer months. Folfers are encouraged to create their own course by choosing reasonable targets that don't break or scratch; a true free-form folfer's dream course with both "big-arm" shots capable of being created and technical shots around every corner.

Spiritwood, Victor

Beautiful piney wooded course, tight, some open long holes, ditch water. 7 novelty pins (hoops, barrels), 5 tones and 6 baskets. 3 tournaments a year. Private. Donation requested.

Getting Here:
South of Missoula on Hwy 93 to Victor. 3 miles south of Victor turn right on Bear Creek Trail, turn left on Red Crow Rd. Go straight onto Fred Burr Rd., 1st right is Spiritwood - go up hill watch for signs. Please call 406-961-4138 before playing. Visit the website: Spirit Wood Disc Golf.
