Glacier Region Map

Welcome to Western Montana’s Glacier Country. As you can see, we’re a pretty big place. To help make your visit smoother, we’ve divided our borders into three distinct regions. Each area is a vacation in itself—supported by a friendly group of people who are happy to share their love for Glacier Country with visitors like you. From river guides to restaurant owners and museum curators to local farmers markets, the people who live and work here are friendly, welcoming and service-minded—with the goal of helping make your time in Western Montana positively memorable.

Region 1

One Big Playground

Encompassing Flathead, Glacier and Lake counties, this region has the most roof racks loaded with bikes, kayaks, skis and canoes, making it a great place to get away and play. Greeting you first is Lake County and the St. Ignatius Mission, National Bison Range and Flathead Lake—the largest freshwater lake in the West. Along the lake are several bustling communities, including Bigfork, Lakeside and Polson, while north of the lake you’ll find the active communities of Kalispell, West Glacier and Whitefish—each community with its own distinct attractions from great restaurants to top-notch skiing and a relaxed approach to life. Hang a right and you’ll soon be in the Crown of the Continent—Glacier National Park.

Region 2

Outdoor Recreation, Culture and History

Somehow Missoula and Ravalli counties have managed to find the perfect balance of history, culture and outdoor recreation. For starters, Ravalli County is anchored by the wide and breathtaking Bitterroot Valley. The route alone is gorgeous, but combined with antique shops, live theater and the oldest pioneer settlement in Montana and a sweet, peaceful treasure is created. In Missoula, you’re a stone’s throw from dozens of outdoor activities like paddling the Clark Fork, snowmobiling in the Seeley Valley or riding in the Rattlesnake. Combine the outdoors with a historic and thriving downtown, galleries and a flourishing cultural scene and you have something deliciously special.

Region 3

Deep Forests, Hidden Gems and Undiscovered Corners

This corner of Western Montana (home to Sanders, Lincoln and Mineral counties) boasts sights, sounds, tastes and feelings that can’t properly be described with words. Maybe it’s the ancient red cedars of the Ross Creek Cedar Grove, the vast wilderness or the healing waters of natural hot springs. Or perhaps it’s the sense of home when you pull into one of the area’s small towns. Whatever it is, it’s best to experience it yourself.
